The Self Regulatory Content Guidelines for Non-News & Current Affairs Television Channels have been finalized by IBF after intensive and detailed deliberations.

During the tenure of Shri Jawahar Goel, a number of initiatives were taken up including finalization of a revised Joint Agreement with AAAI. He also played a pivotal role in keeping the overall outstanding dues from the media agencies and advertisers under control by taking effective steps.
The Finance Ministry was also persuaded to reduce the custom duty on set top boxes to 5% from 51.84%. The excise Duty on indigenous production of Set Top Boxes has also been reduced to zero in order to boost indigenous production.
Another important milestone in the history of IBF is the formation of the Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC). It was during his tenure that BARC obtained the Certificate of Incorporation under section 25 of the Companies Act, 1956.

Shri Sarma enjoyed a long, smooth and hectic term as President of IBF.
An important milestone during his Presidentship was that IBF Secretariat bought its own new office premises, total renovation was carried out and facilities created with a modern office as also a Board room.
During the turbulent phase of introduction of Conditional Access System, it goes to the credit of Shri Sarma that he was able to keep all the members together even though there were differences of opinion on the issue.

It was during his tenure that a historic agreement with the AAAI was signed to set out the basis of professional and commercial relationship between the members of both IBF & AAAI.

During early part of his tenure, Mr. Shah, played a significant role in bringing all the major TV broadcasters under the umbrella of IBF.
Due to the initiative of the IBF, the then Minister of I & B, Mrs Sushma Swaraj constituted a Committee under his Chairmanship on Brand Extension advertisements and it submitted the recommendation to the Government recommending that genuine brand extension products which have got wide distribution in the market should not be denied speech even if the product or service shares a brand name with a liquor or tobacco product or company.

Shri Rathikant Basu, the first President of the Foundation had played a pivotal role in the formation of IBF and looking after the commercial interest ???of the member channels. At the very start, there was an alarming accumulation of arrears of payment to IBF members by the advertising agencies and advertisers and discussions were started towards entering into an Institution to Institution agreement with AAAI.
